EVENTS:
golf tournament at Charbonneau, joint trade show with Wilsonville, Tualatin Industrial Marketplace, Shake Rattle & Roll casino night, annual lunch & auction, Hope for the Holidays breakfast to benefit Tualatin Resource Center, Chamber holiday open house.

POLITICAL:
“will you be able to take the train to work in Tualat in some day in the future? It could happen, and in a relatively short time, if a current study shows positive potential ridership and costs.”

The Metro Council transportation committee is hearing public testimony on the recommendations and findings of ODOT’s Western Bypass Study”. One of the key study recommendations construction of a new limited access expressway from I-5 to 99W”

Transportation Management Association (TMA) formed with the hiring of Dan Kaempff. The TMA will help employees in Tualatin with carpooling, vanpooling and public transit, as well as helping Tualatin employers with more than 50 employees comply with DEQ’s Employee Commute Option regulations.

Cenntennial Bank holds a seminar to begin preparing businesses for Y2K!

BOARD GOALS:
10% net increase in members, long-term decision regarding the chambers future home, increase non-dues revenue, look into forming a 501c3, possibly create a new ‘destination’ event, develop a curriculum for Leadership Tualatin to begin in 1999.

IMPORTANT ISSUES:
Tualatin shuttle begins picking up at 5:30am in downtown Portland because there is no bus service to Tualatin that arrives in t ime for the 6am shift start times in the industrial area. The School-to-Career Advisory Council continues to work on bringing students and employers together so students can have practical work experiences

MISCELLANEOUS:
Golf tournament moved to May and to the Tualatin Country Club golf course
Passport to Business promotion for fall. Get your passport stamped by at least 25 participating businesses and qualify to win the grand prize
Both Receptionists’ this year were students at, or graduates of, Tualatin High School.
